Renu Bhardwaj, Manish Bhardwaj, Shalini Garg . Neuropathic Pain Unveiled (NPU) Model for Patient Education. International Conference on Electronics, Information and Communication Engineering. ICEICE, 4 (December 2011), 4-7.
Neuropathicpain (NP) is defined as pain initiated or caused by a primary lesion or dysfunction of the nervous system .It is one of the most challenging conditions with respect to understanding the complex relationship between symptoms, mechanisms and various approaches to treatment. Recent estimates suggest that up to 8% of the general population suffers with pain associated with neuropathic features and when it persists, it impacts significantly on patients’ lives affecting physical, physiological and social functioning. Neuropathic Pain Unveiled (NPU) is a novel portable visual-electronic model which can educate patients, pain nurses and medical students about the complex mechanisms of NP and help them understand the mode of action of various pharmacological agents used in the treatment of NP.
