Abstract

Wireless sensor network was limited to surveillance and battle field in earlier days. But now it is being commercialized. There are various design challenges in WSN. One of those most important challenges is energy management. There are various protocols designed efficient energy management. But still there is scope for saving energy consumption by proper design of routing protocol. One of such design is the cluster based architecture of WSN. To achieve this sensors are divided into clusters and cluster members communicate to the base station through cluster heads (CH). The cluster-heads communicate the aggregated information collected from the nodes to the base station, saves energy and thus prolongs network lifetime. Motivated from LEACH protocol we proposed a new approach that is energy aware rotation of CH role in cluster which will distribute the energy consumption evenly among the cluster nodes. This will, of course, prolong the lifetime of the network.
