Abstract

Low dropout voltage regulators (LDO) and references are important VLSI circuits of power management block. System-On-Chip (SoC) solutions require integration of various VLSI sub circuits on chip. In this paper an attempt is made to integrate LDO and bandgap reference(BGR) circuits. The designed curvature corrected BGR generates 1.1V output showing 6mV variation across all process corners, temperature and supply variations . Using BGR output as a reference voltage a 1.8V, 5mA Low Drop out Voltage Regulator is designed using Cadence tool, UMC180 PDK in 0.18μm CMOS technology. The LDO responds within 4-5μs for a load current change of 0 – 5mA. The observed overshoot and undershoot voltages are less than 10mV. The line regulation and load regulation achieved are quite good giving variations in the output voltage less than 1mV. The comparison of performance of the LDO without BGR and LDO with BGR circuits shows minute differences in the parameters except the response time as BGR response time gets included.
